(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - September 24, 2012: Expanding its portfolio of light military vehicles, Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), is unveiling its new Special Purpose All-Terrain Vehicle (S-ATV) designed for unconventional and reconnaissance missions at Modern Day Marine 2012, Sept. 25-27 in Quantico, Va. Oshkosh will also have its Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV), which was selected for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase, at the show.

"We have developed a broad range of high-performance light vehicles to offer Warfighters next-generation capabilities for future battlefields," said John Bryant, vice president and general manager of Joint and Marine Corps Programs for Oshkosh Defense. "Our L-ATV and S-ATV platforms, coupled with an array of Oshkosh-developed HMMWV upgrade solutions, demonstrate exciting innovations. The off-road mobility, crew protection and reliability that are hallmarks of our heavy, medium and MRAP platforms have been leveraged in different ways across these light vehicles to meet a range of operational needs."

Oshkosh specifically designed the S-ATV based on emerging worldwide requirements for forces performing unconventional and reconnaissance missions. The S-ATV utilizes Oshkosh's battle-proven off-road technologies and expertise to nimbly travel across rugged, remote and urban terrains at high speeds. The vehicle is available in multiple weight and protection configurations.
Delivering the Oshkosh JLTV Solution
Oshkosh received a contract in August to deliver 22 Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV) prototypes for the JLTV EMD phase, as well as to support government testing and evaluation of the vehicles. The joint services are expected to replace tens of thousands of HMMWVs with the JLTV.
"The Oshkosh JLTV solution was designed with a purpose – to keep Warfighters safe on future battlefields with unpredictable terrain, tactics, and threats," said John Bryant, vice president and general manager of Joint and Marine Corps Programs for Oshkosh Defense. "Oshkosh has a 90-year history of delivering high quality military vehicle programs on-time and on-budget, and our JLTV program is no exception. We understand how critical this light, protected, off-road vehicle will be to Warfighters."
The Oshkosh L-ATV offers an advanced crew protection system that has been extensively tested and is proven to optimize crew survivability. The L-ATV can accept multiple armor configurations, which allows the vehicle to adapt easily to changing operational requirements. The L-ATV also applies the Oshkosh TAK-4i™ intelligent independent-suspension system to provide significantly faster speeds when operating off-road, which can be critical to troops' safety.
Oshkosh executives will be on hand to discuss the vehicles, technologies and vehicle lifecycle management at booth #2404.

According to Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Mylan Fink, the area has seen a significant increase in the number of situations requiring involvement of the department’s tactical team – from delivering high-risk warrants, to call-outs involving armed suspects. “Our officers are managing high risk situations that continue to grow in severity and numbers,” Sheriff Fink said. “They are putting their lives on the line as they enforce the laws and protect our community, and keeping them safe is something we take very seriously. The addition of the new Oshkosh TPV to our vehicle fleet will expand our tactical capabilities and provide greater protection for our officers in these high-risk situations.”

The highly customizable vehicle will be configured, both inside and out, with options selected by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office to meet a wide range of tactical mission requirements.

“The Oshkosh TPV is designed for the high-risk demands confronted by tactical law enforcement officers on a daily basis,” said Ken Juergens, vice president and general manager of Joint Programs for Oshkosh Defense. “We are pleased to provide Fond du Lac County officers with the TPV, which was engineered using state-of-the-art techniques and specialized materials, to meet the needs of law enforcement.”

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office’s TPV will accommodate nine officers and include electrically deployed drop-down skid plates for additional officer protection. The vehicle uses a 6.8-liter, 362-horsepower V-10 gasoline engine, can reach speeds of up to 75 mph, and has selectable four-wheel drive and run-flat tires.

Oshkosh is the leading provider of severe-duty, highly specialized vehicles for military, homeland security and government agencies around the world. “In today’s traditional HEMTT Tanker training curriculum, soldiers receive a limited amount of hands-on experience for critical procedures such as fueling and refueling,” said Dan Albrecht, senior training manager for Oshkosh Defense. “The Oshkosh Virtual Trainer provides life-like training in a safe, virtual environment, which provides soldiers with the skills they need to perform the actual tasks. In addition to enhancing soldiers’ training experience, we estimate that adding a virtual element to our comprehensive program will reduce training costs by 20 percent or more per participant.”

In a recent pilot of the inaugural Oshkosh Virtual Trainer, the HEMTT Tanker module was shown to reduce training time by two days compared to the traditional classroom approach – an efficiency that equates to a 20 percent or more cost savings per participant. During the training, 12 students were able to train simultaneously and demonstrate skill proficiency in the virtual environment before performing tasks on the actual vehicle. For example, students are able to practice fueling and refueling procedures, and recovering from a fuel spill in the virtual world, without being exposed to the real-life hazards. The interactive skill-building using virtual training is not achieved in the traditional training courses where students learn primarily from static course materials and instructor demonstrations.

In addition to reducing direct training expenses, the Oshkosh Virtual Trainer helps prevent wear and tear on the U.S. government’s demonstration vehicles and reduce costly damage to these vehicles.

The Oshkosh Virtual Trainer HEMTT Tanker module will be incorporated into training courses for U.S. Army personnel in May.

“We are excited to introduce our new virtual training capabilities to soldiers in May, and look forward to expanding the program to include more vehicle modules in the future,” Albrecht said.

In addition to its new virtual-training capability, Oshkosh Defense also provides hands-on, classroom and simulation training for operators and mechanics as part of its full life-cycle services and support on all Oshkosh Heavy and Medium Tactical Wheeled Vehicles. The company received a Best Programs (red) ribbon award from Military Training Technology for the 2011 Top Simulation and Training Companies competition.

The HEMTT Tanker Virtual Task Trainer will be on display and Oshkosh representatives will be available at I/ITSEC at DiSTI booth #2481.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada / OSHKOSH, Wis. & OTTAWA, Ontario - August 29, 2011: Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), today delivered the Oshkosh Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) to Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland where the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) will conduct mobility, survivability and weapons testing. Oshkosh Defense’s response to the TAPV solicitation was submitted to the Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) last week.

“Today, Oshkosh has delivered the best solution for the TAPV program including the most advanced military vehicle technologies and the finest Canadian-based sustainment services for the DND,” said Serge Buchakjian, senior vice president and general manager of International Programs for Oshkosh Defense. “Our TAPV is a fully integrated vehicle that is customized to the Canadian Force’s specific requirements, offering them the best-value solution. With our partners at General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada and Oshkosh Corporation's London Machinery, Inc., we can produce the vehicle in a way that creates considerable benefits for the Canadian economy for the next 25 years.”

The TAPV is intended to replace the Armoured Patrol Vehicle (APV) and the Coyote reconnaissance vehicle, to help ensure the Canadian Army remains capable of effective training, supporting domestic operations and sustaining deployed forces as part of the Canada First Defence Strategy. The Oshkosh TAPV, which is based on the company’s proven Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) platform, leverages a mission-proven chassis and the patented TAK-4® independent suspension system used on more than 20,000 military-class vehicles, which have proven highly-effective in some of the most extreme operating environments, including Afghanistan.

In independent testing conducted to date, the Oshkosh TAPV has undergone on- and off-road durability validation, successfully met ballistic and other survivability threat requirements (including the use of steel-pot method for NATO STANAG blast tests), and completed extensive live-fire demonstrations of the fully integrated dual Remote Weapon Station (RWS). The combination of these activities demonstrates the effectiveness, maturity and reliability of the Oshkosh TAPV.

Oshkosh Defense is teamed with General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada and Oshkosh Corporation subsidiary London Machinery, Inc. (LMI) in its bid for the TAPV program. General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada will provide in-country support and system integration. LMI will contribute local advanced manufacturing capabilities to assemble the vehicle, conduct subsystem integration and final acceptance testing, which will be performed by its highly skilled workforce.
